Martin Frommhold

Martin Frommhold (born June 20, 1880 in Dörnthal / Saxony ; † April 10, 1933 in Hanover ) was a German lawyer , mayor of both Westerland on Sylt and the city of Stade , " Landschaftsrat ", member of the German Democratic Party (DDP) in Hanover provincial assembly and victims of National Socialism .

Live and act

Born at the time of the German Empire as the son of a Protestant theologian in Pfaffrode in the Ore Mountains, Martin Frommhold completed his Abitur in Chemnitz in 1899 and then studied law at the University of Munich and the University of Leipzig . In 1903 Frommhold received his doctorate .

Martin Frommhold was elected mayor of Westerland on Sylt as early as 1908, retained this office until 1915 after the start of the First World War , and was elected mayor of the city of Stade that same year, where he held this office until 1925.

Before that, Frommhold had already been elected chairman of the Stader Geschichts- und Heimatverein in 1914 , in which he also worked until 1925 and, for example, wrote about the expansion of the city of Stade in the Stader archive .

Frommhold was elected from 1919 to 1920 for the constituency of Stade (from September 1, 1919 as a successor for Ulrich Dumrath ), 1921 to 1925 for the constituency of Achim and from 1925 to 1929 for the constituency of Hannover-Stadt in the Hanover Provincial Assembly and represented there in 1919 as Group chairman until 1929 the interests of the DDP. From 1927 to 1929 he was Vice President of the State Parliament.

From 1925 until 1933, Martin Frommhold worked for the Hanover State Insurance Company , which later became the German Pension Insurance Braunschweig-Hanover .

In 1931 Frommhold took over the post of 1st chairman of the Wilhelm Busch Society .

After the takeover by the German Nazis and character assassination - Campaign Martin Frommhold chose already on 10 April 1933, Hannover to suicide to the " intimidation and harassment of the SA , located in the noise of, the National Revolution to escape raged '" .
