Martin Häusler (born January 24, 1971 in Heidelberg ) is a German photographer , director of music videos and art director . In the USA and in English-speaking countries, he uses the modified spelling of his name Martin Hausler to publish his work .

Life

Häusler began his career as a self-taught designer in the 1990s and designed in the following years as an art director a. a. Books and calendars for the Rolling Stones , Backstreet Boys or N'Sync and many other artists ( Spice Girls , Echt , Modern Talking , Aqua , Bed & Breakfast etc.).

From 2000, Häusler expanded his creative spectrum and began working as a director for music videos for rock bands such as Tito & Tarantula , Helloween , Krokus and Gotthard, as well as pop acts such as Sweetbox and others. He made music documentaries, for example. B. About the American actress and pop singer Hilary Duff , with whom he worked for many years and also designed several CD covers for her.

Through his work as a director and art director, Häusler made contacts in the US market and again expanded his field of activity, this time to photography, which led Häusler to work mainly as a photographer since 2004. He works a lot in Los Angeles, where he has had his second home since 2008, but commutes regularly between the USA and Germany.

Since then, Häusler has become known as a photographer, especially for his portraits of musicians like Meat Loaf , Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead , Brian May , as well as actors like Terry Crews , Danny Trejo or Uwe Ochsenknecht , models like Olivia Palermo and Johannes Hübel, from the pop stars Britney Spears and Jessica Sutta from the Pussycat Dolls as well as music acts such as Bon Jovi , Queen , Nikka Costa , Alex (Max) Band , Eva Simons , R5 , Kitty Kat , Helloween , Gotthard or Slayer . His images are published in CD artwork, books, calendars, magazines and other PR media. Häusler also works with customers from advertising and sports.

In June 2011 Häusler photographed life-size 3D models for the fashion and lifestyle magazine Grazia on the occasion of the opening of Berlin Fashion Week with a 3D light field camera system ( plenic optical camera ) developed in-house; the images can be viewed without 3D glasses. Häusler has given lectures on his developments in 3D photography at Adobe Inc. in San Jose or at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design. Furthermore, it has been reported in magazines such as Page and Photographie and Adobe showed his work at the PhotoshopAndYou event 2011 in San Francisco.

In the spring of 2014, Häusler showed his first photo exhibition under his name in Germany: in support of the Peter Maffay Foundation, he presented his previous photographic work in Heidelberg and also photographed portraits of German artists such as Bülent Ceylan , Kaya Yanar and Doro Pesch as well as German actors like Andreas Hoppe and Manou Lubowski as well as the international musicians Lordi from Finland and Brian May , guitarist of the band Queen. At the opening evening of the exhibition, u. a. also the singer of the band Toto , Bobby Kimball , and the singer Doro Pesch.

In December 2014, the Substrate FineArt Gallery in Los Angeles, together with Häusler, staged the LA ICONIC'S exhibition, which showed Häusler's photographs with mostly American artists and his collected photographic work in Los Angeles over the past few years. Celebrities like Terry Crews , Meat Loaf , R5 , Motörhead and many more supported Häusler in this project.

In September and October 2016, Häusler showed the exhibition project “The Martin Häusler Sanctum Soho Photography Takeover” in London. For this purpose, Häusler temporarily redesigned a boutique hotel in downtown London with portraits of musicians and actors into a gallery.

In May 2018, Häusler showed the Cuban Beauty exhibition project for the first time and published a photo book of the same name. It is the first exhibition project in which Häusler does not show famous personalities, but portraits of young Cuban models that he has staged and photographed in various locations on the island.

Häusler is part of the US TV reality series Livin 'Lozada , which premiered on OWN TV in July 2015. He can be seen in several episodes as the photographer of the series stars Evelyn Lozada and her daughter Shaniece Hairston. The series takes place in various locations in Los Angeles, USA.

In addition to his work as a photographer, Häusler also realizes projects as a director for music videos or advertising clips and as an art director or designer. In 2016 he designed the digital stage sets for Tabaluga "Long live friendship" and in 2017 the show visuals for the Scorpions' "Crazy World Tour" and for the "Peter Maffay MTV Unplugged Tour 2018" by Peter Maffay and the "Live 2019/2020 “Tour by Udo Lindenberg .
