Maruša Mišmaš (born October 24, 1994 in Grosuplje ) is a Slovenian athlete who competes in the middle and obstacle course.

Athletic career

Maruša Mišmaš gained her first international experience in 2010, when she finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 60.69 s at the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . The following year she reached the semi-finals at the World Youth Championships near Lille , in which she was eliminated with 62.45 s. Also at the subsequent European Junior Championships in Tallinn , she failed with 61.74 s in the first round. Then she switched to the middle distance and obstacle course. At the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in 2012 she was eliminated over 800 meters with 2: 07.23 minutes in the lead and finished ninth over 1500 meters in 4: 14.96 minutes. In 2013 she qualified over 1500 meters for the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and was eliminated there with 4: 27.45 min in the preliminary round. She then won the European Junior Championships in Rieti , Italy , she won the silver medal in the obstacle course and at the same time set a new Slovenian junior record of 9: 51.15 minutes.

In 2014 she took part in the 1500 meter indoor world championships in Sopot , Poland , but failed there with 4: 18.92 minutes in the preliminary round. At the European Championships in Zurich , she finished tenth in the obstacle course in 9: 54.75 minutes. The following year she finished eighth in the 3000 meter run in 8: 59.51 minutes in the final of the European Indoor Championships in Prague . At the U23 European Championships in 2015 in Tallinn , she was fifth in the obstacle course in 9: 52.03 min and also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the preliminary round with 9: 37.73 min .

In 2018 she took part in the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona , where she won the bronze medal in 9: 35.57 minutes behind the Albanian Luiza Gega and Habiba Ghribi from Tunisia. In addition, she then reached the finals at the European Championships in Berlin , where she finished eleventh with 9: 34.50 minutes. The following year she retired from the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with 4: 09.81 min in the preliminary round. She then improved the national record in the obstacle course to 9: 20.97 min at the Bislett Games in Oslo , making her one of the fastest Europeans over this distance. At the World Championships in Doha she was twelfth with 9: 25.80 min in the final and was eliminated over 1500 meters with 4: 14.94 min in the lead . She then won the silver medal behind Winfred Mutile Yavi from Bahrain at the World Military Games in Wuhan with 9: 24.47 minutes .

In 2010 Mišmaš became the Slovenian champion in the 400-meter hurdles and in 2011 over 800 and 1500 meters. She also won over 1500 meters in the years from 2013 to 2017. From 2014 to 2016 and 2020 she also won over 3000 meters. In 2015 she became the Slovenian indoor champion in the 1500 meter run.
