Mats Trygg (born June 1, 1976 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Manglerud Star Ishockey in the GET-ligaen since 2020 . His twin brother Marius Trygg and his brother Mathias Trygg are also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Mats Trygg began his career as a hockey player with Manglerud Star Ishockey . From there he moved to the Spektrum Flyers , for whose professional team he was active from 1994 to 1996 in the GET-ligaen , the highest Norwegian league. After three years with his league rivals - and his ex-club - Manglerud Star Ishockey, he played for Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elitserien from 1999 to 2005 . With the team from Karlstad he was in the 2001/02 season for the first time in his career Swedish champions , whereupon he was also voted Norway's player of the year for the first time. He was also runner-up with Färjestad BK in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
For the 2005/06 season Trygg signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League , where his compatriot Martin Knold , who had moved to the Sauerland a year earlier , was also under contract. After only one year with the Roosters, Trygg signed a two-year contract with the Kölner Haien , which he extended to 2010 during the 2007/08 season. With the Haien, the Norwegian became runner-up in the same year after losing the final series against the Eisbären Berlin . For the 2010/11 season he left the Haie and signed a one-year contract with their league rivals Hamburg Freezers . There he was one of the regular players, but left the club again after missing the qualification for the playoffs at the end of the season and ran between 2011 and 2013 for the Swedish Elitserien participant HV71 .
Between 2013 and 2018 he played for Lørenskog IK , partly as team captain. Two years at Vålerenga Ishockey followed before he returned to Manglerud at the age of 44.
International
For Norway , Trygg took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1994 and the U20 Junior B World Championships in 1994 and 1995 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B World Championships in 2002 , 2003 , 2004 and 2005 and at the A World Championships in 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2009 .
