Max Seiz
Max Eugen Seiz (also Max E. Seiz ; born October 12, 1927 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † April 6, 2020 there ) was a German sculptor who lived in Schwäbisch Gmünd and worked as a freelance artist since 1954.
Life
From 1942 to 1944 he completed an apprenticeship as a steel engraver at the Gmünder Silberwarenfabrik Erhard & Sons . In 1944 he was first used as a soldier in Czechoslovakia during World War II and was taken prisoner by the US in Belgium in 1944 . After his discharge in 1946 and his return from Virginia , he attended the State Higher Technical School for Precious Metals (now the University of Design ) in Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1946 to 1950 . After graduating, he worked from 1950 to 1952 at WMF in Geislingen an der Steige as a steel engraver. After studying in London from 1953 to 1954, he worked as a freelance artist.
In 1981 he was visiting professor at the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design . Since 1983 he has held annual solo exhibitions in the Villa Seiz Gallery in his Art Nouveau villa on the Nepperberg in Schwäbisch Gmünd. There is also a sculpture garden surrounded by sandstone rocks. In addition to sculpture, Seiz also engaged in drawing and painting. As early as 2002, in addition to around 250 sculptures, around 900 drawings, watercolors and paintings had been collected. His children Andrea and Alexander Seiz lived with him.
Seiz's grave is on the Leonhard Cemetery in Gmünd in grave field K.
