Megan Marie Hart (* 1983 in Santa Monica ) is an American opera singer in the vocal category Lyric Soprano .

Life

Megan Marie Hart was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up in Eugene , Oregon . She had her first singing lessons at the age of 17. Her participation in the youth program of the Oregon Bach Festival under the direction of Helmuth Rilling brought her to the decision to make singing her profession. From 2001 Hart studied with the tenor, vocal teacher and musicologist Richard Miller at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin (Ohio) . In the summer of 2003, Hart took part in the summer academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg under Miller . Hart was also a participant in the Elysium Summer Academy in Bernried in the summer of 2003 and in the summer of 2004. In 2005 she obtained her Bachelor of Music in Oberlin and had her first meeting with Marilyn Horne , in whose master class she took part. In the following year she obtained the title Master of Music . In 2006, Hart attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York , where she studied with mezzo-soprano Mignon Dunn . In the same year Hart met her future teacher Marilyn Horne again. In 2007 Hart graduated from the Manahttan School of Music with the Professional Studies Certificate .

From 2007 to 2010 Hart was in the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program, led by Jane Eaglen . In summer 2010, studied hard at the Music Academy of the West again won with Marilyn Horne and there with the pianist Sun Ha Yoon competition Marilyn Horne Song Competition . Marilyn Horne has been Hart's teacher ever since.

Act

Opera

Hart's operatic repertoire includes baroque roles such as Handel's Alcina and Almirena from Rinaldo , female leading roles in Mozart operas such as the Contessa di Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro , Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte . She also embodies modern roles such as Lady Billows in Britten's Albert Herring , the woman in Poulenc's La voix humaine and Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites . She appears in lirico-spinto roles such as Verdi's Aida , Luisa Miller and Gilda in Rigoletto , Puccini's Tosca and Mimì in La bohème and Chrysothemis in Elektra by Richard Strauss.

In 2010, an Alcina production by the early music ensemble Bourbon Baroque, with Megan Marie Hart in the title role, was staged for a television recording that has since been broadcast repeatedly.

In the 2014/15 season, Hart joined the ensemble of the Landestheater Detmold . There she could be seen again in an all-female production in the role of woman in La voix humaine , staged by Karin Kotzbauer, under the musical direction of Sachie Mallet, in stage and costume design by Tatiana Tarwitz and with dramaturge Elisabeth Wirtz.

In 2018 Hart appeared for the first time as Tosca. The production was well received by critics and audiences alike. Two Detmold theater awards went to the production, to the best production for director Ernö Weil and to Hart for the role of Floria Tosca.

Hart received her second theater ring in the 2019 award of the Detmold Theater Prize, which was purely an audience award without a preselection jury. Another theater ring went to Caroline Lusken from the ballet ensemble, who danced as the character La Morte created by director Christian von Götz at Hart's side in Luisa Miller . Hart also made her debut as Aida in 2019 .

Hart's early concert appearances in Europe took place in 2003 in Salzburg and in 2004 in Bernried . In 2008 Hart performed arias by Handel with the early music ensemble Bourbon Baroque. A recording of Lascia ch'io pianga shows Hart with the dancer Caroline Copeland. In the same year she appeared for the first time as a professional singer in a television show, as soprano soloist in Beethoven's 9th Symphony with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gerard Schwarz in a concert for the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu . With the same orchestra, under the baton of Marvin Hamlisch , she sang the premiere of his song Chanukah Lights, written for the occasion, in the holiday concert Holiday Pops .

In 2009 she sang art songs in Yiddish with Music of Remembrance by composer Lazar Weiner , a survivor of the Holocaust . With the same ensemble she sang the soprano solo in Shostakovich's Aus der Juden Volkspoesie op. 79 in 2010. In the same year she performed excerpts from his Prima Donna in a concert with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra and Rufus Wainwright under Carlos Kalmar .

In January 2012 Hart made her Carnegie Hall debut with art songs by Franz Liszt , in a recital with pianist Sun Ha Yoon. In March of the same year she returned there to sing in the concert of the winners of the competition of the Liederkranz Society of the City of New York , in which she won first place in the art song category. In summer 2012 Hart sang in concerts with the conductor Eve Queler , with whom she had previously worked in Oberlin on a production of Le nozze di Figaro .

In 2013 and 2015 Hart sang arias in concerts with orchestras in Germany, the Instrumentalverein Darmstadt under Bart Berzonsky and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen under the direction of Markus Huber . In 2016 she sang the soprano solo in Mendelssohn's oratorio Elias . In autumn 2017, Hart sang with mezzo-soprano Janina Hollich under the direction of Lutz Rademacher in Gustav Mahler's Resurrection Symphony . The monumental work was performed for the first time in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region at Rademacher's instigation .
