Mi reflejo is the second studio album of American pop - singer Christina Aguilera . It was released in 2000 and is the only album the artist sang in Spanish . The album contains five Spanish language versions of songs from Aguilera's debut album and six new songs in Spanish.

background

The album should show the Latin American roots of Christina Aguilera. She doesn't speak Spanish herself, but understands the language because her father, who was born in Ecuador , spoke Spanish at home. In the spring of 2000, Aguilera recorded the songs for the album in Miami , Florida with music producer Rudy Pérez . The album was originally supposed to be called Latin Lover Girl , but was later renamed Mi reflejo .

The ballad Si No Te Hubiera Conocido sings Aguilera in a duet with the young in Puerto Rico -born singer Luis Fonsi. With the piece Contigo En La Distancia there was a traditional song on the album that had previously been interpreted by Tito Puente and the Mexican pop star Luis Miguel. The pieces on the debut album, translated into Spanish, are Genio Atrapado ( Genie In A Bottle ), Por Siempre Tú ( I Turn to You ), Una Mujer ( What A Girl Wants ), Mi Reflejo ( Reflection ) and Ven Conmigo ( Come On Over ).

criticism

The album was well received by the critics. Mostly it was rated higher than Stripped . Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine describes the album as a remake of Christina Aguilera's debut album . Although it is well produced, it does not contain any highlights. It is about music for in between, which is not as convincing as that of her debut album.

Commercial win

Mi reflejo debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200 . The album went six times platinum in the US in 2001 for over 600,000 units sold. Two songs on the album were nominated for the Latin Grammy Award : Genio Atrapado in the Best Female Vocal Performance category (2000) and Pero Me Acuerdo De Tí as Recording of the Year (2001). The album was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Awards for Best Latin Pop Album . Aguilera became the first American artist to win a Latin Grammy. The album was particularly successful in Latin American countries such as Argentina , Mexico and Venezuela , where it reached the top ten of the album charts .
