Matthew Wilder
Matthew Wilder (born January 24, 1953 in New York ; actually Matthew Weiner ) is an American musician who became known through his international chart success Break My Stride from 1983.
life and career
Wilder was one half of the Greenwich Village Folk Group Matthew & Peter in the 1970s. In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles to sing for various television commercials. He was also heard as a background singer with Rickie Lee Jones and Bette Midler .
Wilder's breakthrough came with his debut album I Don't Speak the Language in 1983. It reached number 49 on the US Billboard charts , and the most successful release, Break My Stride , even rose to number five on the US charts . The song was also a great success internationally, reaching number four in Great Britain , number seven in Germany , number eight in Austria and number 22 in Switzerland . The following singles and albums were not successful.
Despite the lack of success of his solo career, Wilder remained loyal to the music industry and from then on proved himself to be a successful songwriter and record producer . He wrote songs for No Doubt , 702 , Christina Aguilera , Kelly Clarkson and Joanna , dubbed “Ling” in the Disney film Mulan (1998) and contributed to the soundtrack . Wilder produced songs for the Australian singer-songwriter Mig Ayesa and for Hayden Panettiere .
