Michelle Gayle (born February 2, 1971 in London ) is a British singer and actress . In the 1990s she had several hit singles in Europe , of which Sweetness made it into the top 10 of the UK charts in 1994 and Do You Know in 1997 .
biography
Michelle Gayle attended Barbara Speake Stage School in Acton , where Naomi Campbell was one of her classmates. At the age of 17 she played the role of Fiona Wilson in Grange Hill , a television series on the BBC . In 1990 she moved to EastEnders , the first soap about a black family on English television. Her role name was Hattie Tavernier. After three years she left production to devote herself to her music career.
A contract with RCA Records made the first single release possible in 1993. Looking Up entered the UK charts in August and barely missed the top 10 at # 11. Sweetness went even better a year later , which hit # 4 in the UK and sold a total of 300,000 copies. The song also made it into the charts in Switzerland and Germany .
On the 1994 debut album , which was produced by Narada Michael Walden and Simon Climie , in addition to the two previous singles, other hits were included. I'll Find You entered the UK charts at number 26 in 1994 and Freedom at number 16 in 1995. A quarter of a year later, Happy Just to Be with You reached number 11 in England and a middle position in Germany. These successes owed Gayle 1995, two nominations for the BRIT Awards , one as female Best Female Artist ( Best Female ) and another for Best Single ( Best Single ).
Under the name Childliners , Gayle recorded the Christmas single The Gift of Christmas in addition to various other artists such as Backstreet Boys , Boyzone , MN8 , Sean Maguire , Deuce , Ultimate Kaos , East 17 , Peter Andre and Dannii Minogue , which it recorded in December 1995 Rank 9 in the British charts.
In 1997 Michelle Gayle returned to the charts with the singles Do You Know (# 6) and Sensational (# 14). The accompanying album Sensational entered the album charts at number 17 in May of that year and stayed there for four weeks. The record company was dissatisfied with the sales figures and ended the collaboration with the Londoner, who now signed a contract with EMI . Me One and Ivan Matias wrote songs that were recorded by Gayle. It was never released, however, because she left the label in 1999 after restructuring and went back to her job as an actress. In the same year she played a role in Beauty and the Beast , a West End production.
After taking a break from caring for her son Isaiah, Michelle started her own music production company, M Media Productions. In 2003 the singer took part in the American TV show Reborn in the USA , where former pop stars competed against each other and fought for a new record deal. She took second place behind Tony Hadley , the lead singer of Spandau Ballet . Got to Be Me was created with New York producer Terence Dudley, who also worked for 50 Cent . The single was promoted, but not a hit.
In 2005, Michelle went back to her roots and played Cara in the soap opera Family Affairs on Channel 5 . In the same year she got the main female role of Yvonne in Der Feind inside (Original Title: Joy Division ), a film that takes place in the Second World War . In 2006, Gayle took third place on the Channel 4 show The Games , where celebrities competed in Olympic disciplines . A year later she was seen daily in Loose Women , the flagship of ITV .
Another attempt to get back on the road to success in the music industry was the participation in the British preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 . With her title Woo (U Make Me) , she only had to admit defeat to former X-Factor finalist Andy Abraham .
