Members of the United Nations Economic and Social Council
The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations has 54 member states, which are elected by the United Nations General Assembly for overlapping three-year terms. 14 members represent the African, 11 the Asian, 6 the Eastern European, 10 the Latin American-Caribbean regional group and 13 the group of Western European and other countries. Every year 1/3 of the 54 members are re-elected for a term of 3 years, whereby immediate re-election is not excluded.

Group of Western European and Other States
'*' Seats that changed within an electoral term:
on January 1, 2001: Malta took over the seat of Greece
on January 1, 2002: Spain, the seat of Portugal
on November 11, 2003: Turkey, the seat of Portugal
on January 1, 2005: Spain the seat of Greece
In 2011, Switzerland and Spain appear to have taken over the seats from Liechtenstein and Turkey. On January 1, 2012, Switzerland took over the seat of Norway and the Netherlands took over the seat of Belgium.
