The NSG Ausstichgelände Röntgengental , which already belongs to the state of Brandenburg, is located around 500 meters east of the nature reserve .

Both nature reserves are part of the common Barnim Nature Park established in 1998 by the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg .

2. the entire area as an example To preserve part of the typical regional cultural landscape. "

Flora and fauna

Gray geese in the NSG

The core area of the nature reserve consists of three former peat cuttings which, together with the adjacent reeds, serve as breeding and habitat for numerous water bird species. Various amphibians and reptiles also find favorable living conditions here. A hiking trail coming from Eupener Straße runs directly between the Kleiner and Großer Porfstich and allows a clear view of the flora and fauna of the ponds. The somewhat remote Nordstich is hidden behind a wide belt of reeds and dense undergrowth and thus proves to be a biotope with a special protective function for amphibians and birds. The native amphibians and reptiles include the common toads , the blindworms and the forest lizards . 77 bird species have been identified in the nature reserve, including around 50 breeding bird species. Of the registered bird species, 23 species can be found in the hazard categories of the Red List . Marsh harriers , red-backed shrimp , skylark and meadow pipit were observed in the area .

Around 350 species of fern and flowering plants are native to the fen meadows surrounding the peat cuttings . The species-rich meadow areas, which are preserved with targeted hydrological measures as well as mowing, grazing and removal of woody vegetation, serve as a habitat for numerous insects . Among the occurring species of butterflies are swallowtail , Wiesenzünsler , Pontia edusa and Brombeerspinner .
