The 37.61 km² catchment area of the Mohrbach is naturally part of the Aischgrund , but it is not drained via the Aisch, but via the Seebach, the Main-Danube Canal , the Regnitz , the Main and the Rhine to the North Sea. The Seebach has a slightly smaller catchment area than this before the Mohrbach.

The Mohrbach catchment area borders

  • in the northeast and east to that of the forest trench , a later tributary of the Seebach;
  • in the south to the Seebach itself;
  • to the west of that of the Aschenbach , which flows to the Aisch , which only feeds the Regnitz below the Seebach;
  • in the north to that of the other Aisch tributaries Schwarzenbach and Staffelbach .

The highest elevation is 350  m above sea level. NHN high Dachsberg in the west of the catchment area.

There are a large number of ponds in the catchment area of the Mohrbach. Otherwise it is used for agriculture, with forests mainly in the peripheral areas. A larger forest island also in the center is the Hegnichtswald . The further estuary area is forested and the estuary itself is in the village of Dechsendorf.

Tributaries

  • Lindach ( right ), 5.1 km (with upper course 10.3 km)

geology

The catchment area is characterized by sandstone - claystone alternation with dolomite rock layers of the Löwenstein formation of the Middle Keuper . To the south-east there are increasingly sandstones with chalcedony layers .

Quaternary gravel and sandstone dominate the floodplain and the estuary .

nature and environment

In the source area in the area of the ox ponds, large sedge beds , sedges and wet meadows rich in rushes grow and are swamps with underwater and floating leaf vegetation .

In the area of the ponds near Mohrhof , part of the town of Höchstadt, there is a fauna and flora habitat with biologically valuable wet meadows.

On the western outskirts of Hesselberg near the Salted Wiesen-Weiher there is species-rich wet grassland and north of the Altenberg rush-rich wet meadows.
