geography
course
The Seebach rises near the desert of Sintmannsbuch in the Gerhardshofen community in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district and, on its first and foremost eastward moving upper course, flows through an uninterrupted chain of fish ponds over 4.5 km long in the still shallow valley. At the Spirklesweiher she crosses over to the district of Markt Weisendorf in the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt and experiences the first and shortest of three also feeding streams from the left. Then it runs more and more east-northeast. At the hamlet of Sintmann , where the first district road ERH 28 crosses, the second, longer Strietgraben flows from the left . Behind the village of Mitteldorf , which is also to the left of the run, there are only sporadic ponds in the valley basin. In the middle of Weisendorf, where the state road St 2263 crosses the Seebach, the third upstream tributary flows into the Sauerheimer Graben . The following Reinersdorf is the last village of Weisendorf in the Seebachtal, behind which the small river enters the district of Großenseebach , where the middle course begins after a bend to the east-southeast.
On this will follow soon in local Heßdorf the, at the eastern edge A three crosses on a dam rather nondescript valley. Then the Seebach enters the area of the independent city Erlangen , where Dechsendorf is the first valley town. There the Mohrbach , also called Moorbach , flows into it with a length of over 13 km (with its main upper course) , again from the left. From here the state road St 2240 runs for a while in the here quite wide floodplain, to which the Mönau forest joins on the flat slope in the south , while the Seebach runs on the left edge of the corridor to Dechsendorfer Lohe . At the height of the old location Heusteg at the beginning of the Mönau Forest, the Seebach slowly turns to the northeast and with the re-entry into the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt and the district of Möhrendorf , the short lower course begins in a very straight ditch.
From here the Seebach runs constantly to the left of the Main-Danube Canal, which is nowhere more than a quarter of a kilometer away, sometimes less than 50 meters. Right at the Erlangen lock, the forest ditch, which is almost 12 km long from its top source, flows into it from the left . Opposite the southern end of the settlement area of Möhrendorf, the Seebach is - wholly or partially - introduced into the canal, but a trench marked as Seebach on maps continues to closely follow the waterway and runs in the small part of Möhrendorf on this side of the canal under the piped as a district road (ERH 31 ) through the main street of Möhrendorf. The Seebach, which runs in front of the outskirts, now takes in an inflow of less than 5 km from the left from the state forest of Mark , which also feeds its chain of ponds on the lower reaches. It then separates a new building area to the right of the settlement core of the Möhrendorfer village Kleinseebach on the left, both of which are connected via the Seebach bridge of the district road ERH 32, and then flows from the left into the Main-Danube Canal .
Before it was built, the Seebach flowed into the Regnitz east of Kleinseebach .
Catchment area
The Seebach has a catchment area of 116.6 km² in size, which roughly has the contour of a parallelogram with two long sides in the south and north and a long diagonal from the south-west to the rounded north-east point. In it, the Seebach flows from the southwestern tip over three quarters of its length to the east and very close to the southern watershed, then on the remainder of the stretch northeast along the southeastern narrow side, just this side of the Main-Danube Canal in the left Regnitz floodplain. The large parts of the area in the north of the catchment area are therefore mainly drained from the large tributaries on the left, these are - from the source to the mouth - the Mohrbach (bearing 37th century), which flows at an acute angle from the west-north-west only quite far to the east at Dechsendorf % of the total catchment area at), the zumündende shortly after the direction of bend of the Seebach run northeast forestry trench (24%), with its significant left feed Roettenbach , both on the western edge of the national forest Mark run, and finally a spite of not less length unnamed on maps inlet at Möhrendorf in the middle of the state forest (6%); only these three together make up two thirds of the total catchment area.
In the south it borders on that of the Steinforstgraben and the Bimbach , which flow directly above the Regnitz. In the southwest the Middle Aurach competes with its tributaries, the Welkenbach with its left tributary Birkenbühlbach and the Reichenbach . In the northwest the Seebach catchment area joins that of the far downward Regnitz tributary Aisch and its right tributaries Reisigbach , Aschenbach , Wintersbachgraben , Schwarzenbach , Staffelbach , Reutgraben , Weihergraben and Willersdorfer Graben . In the north, the catchment area of the Hirtenbach and smaller, eastward running downward Regnitz tributaries, such as that of the Kupfergraben, slide in front of it .

environment
The 114.48 hectare Seebachgrund , designated as a landscape protection area (LSG-00340.05), is considered an ecologically valuable meadow valley and is home to rare bird , insect and plant species . So come u. a. the Common Snipe and the Corn Crake . The exceptionally sandy soil in the Seebach valley contributes to this diversity of endangered species (see also Franconian sand axis ). The Seebachtal is shown in the regional planning as a regional green corridor and thus largely protected from development.
The eastern Seebach valley in the area of Möhrendorf and Kleinseebach used to be flooded regularly. The new, straightened outflow into the canal and an additional overflow into the canal southwest of Möhrendorf, which limits the amount of water in the area of the Möhrendorf municipality, has completely prevented flooding in this section of the river since the early 1970s. In the past, they caused considerable damage in Kleinseebach, for example. B. July 1941.
Nevertheless, there are ecologically particularly valuable sections in this area as well. For areas of the Seebach that have lost their natural character due to human interference, the land use plan of the municipality of Möhrendorf provides for partial renaturation .
The Seebachlauf is not accessible in places where there are no paths in the bank area parallel to the water.
In the catchment area of the Seebach, naturally regarded as part of the Aischgrund , carp pond management is widespread, especially on the upper reaches of the Mohrbach and along the forest trench . The numerous ponds have a total area of several square kilometers.
