Mechelwind is a district of the town of Höchstadt an der Aisch in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district in Middle Franconia .
geography
The village is immediately surrounded by arable land and grassland with a few trees. In the west the corridor area is called Brand. In the north are the ox ponds, in the northeast are the Mohrweiher, which are fed by the Mohrhofgraben. In the south, next to a small piece of forest, there are the Pfaffenweiher.
history
The place was mentioned in a document in 1303 as "Mechiltzüge" and in 1322 as "Mechthildewinden". The basic word of the place name - winds - indicates that the place was a settlement of Wenden ordered by the authorities , which was common in the Middle Ages. The defining word of the place name is the personal name Mechthild . Presumably this meant Mathilde, the daughter of the Polish king Bolesław I , who married Count Otto von Schweinfurt in 1035 . The place could be a morning gift on the occasion of the wedding - Count Otto was probably wealthy in this area, as a document from the years 1048/51 suggests. The place itself is likely to be much older, as indicated by a Carolingian burial ground whose objects and grave goods can be dated between 700 and 900 AD. Sheep farming with extensive grazing rights was of particular importance .
Towards the end of the 18th century there was a castle, a house and a sheep farm in Mechelwind. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Bayreuth caste and jurisdiction office Dachsbach . The sole landlord was the Brandenburg-Bayreuth administration Uehlfeld .
As part of the community edict, Mechelwind was assigned to the Kairlindach tax district formed in 1811 . In 1813 the rural community Kairlindach was formed, to which the place belonged. With the second community edict (1818) it was re-incorporated into the newly formed rural community Boxbrunn .
On May 1, 1978, Mechelwind was incorporated into the town of Höchstadt an der Aisch as part of the regional reform .
