NGC 2601 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa and is located in the constellation Flying Fish in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 135 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter . The galaxy has an angular extent of 1.6 '× 1.1' and an apparent magnitude of 12.5 mag.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 5, 1835 .
