NGC 2602 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 599 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2600 , NGC 2603 , NGC 2605 , NGC 2606 , among others .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on February 16, 1831 .
