NGC 2605 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is an estimated 593 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2600 , NGC 2602 , NGC 2603 , NGC 2606 .
The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on March 11, 1858 .
