NGC 2689 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Great Bear . It is estimated to be 721 million light years from the Milky Way . In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2684 , NGC 2686 , NGC 2687 and NGC 2688 .
The object was discovered by RJ Mitchell on March 11, 1858 .
