NGC 2709 is a lenticular dwarf galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Hydra south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 79 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 20,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2697 , NGC 2698 , NGC 2699 , NGC 2708 , among others .
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on January 27, 1852 .
