NGC 2722 = NGC 2733 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Water Snake south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 116 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 2698 , NGC 2699 , NGC 2708 , NGC 2709 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on January 6, 1785 .
