NGC 2744 is a merging bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBb / P in the constellation Cancer on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 149 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2745 , NGC 2747 , NGC 2749 , NGC 2752 , among others .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 21, 1784 .
