NGC 2723 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Water Snake south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 158 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 2713 , NGC 2716 , IC 2426 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on March 3, 1864 .
