NGC 2699 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 76 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years across . 
The galaxies NGC 2697 , NGC 2698 , NGC 2708 , NGC 2709 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Heinrich Louis d'Arrest on January 4, 1862 .
