NGC 2691 is an active spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sa with a high rate of star formation in the constellation of the lynx in the northern sky . It is an estimated 177 million light years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 2704 .

The Type Ia supernova SN 2011hr was observed here.

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 20, 1787 .
