Local traffic in the Tecklenburger Land

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Local public transport in Tecklenburger Land consists of a rail system with RB trains and a regional bus system with SchnellBus, RegioBus and TaxiBus lines. There are also lines at irregular intervals, such as school bus or citizen bus lines. The focus of the express and regional bus routes is on connecting the Tecklenburger Land to the regional center of Osnabrück . Connections to Münster and Rheine , on the other hand, are weak.

Local traffic in the rail network is covered by the WestfalenBahn and NordWestBahn . The bus traffic is carried out by Regionalverkehr Münsterland GmbH. The border location with Lower Saxony is a special feature in local transport . There are special regulations in the tariffs, such as B. the Lower Saxony ticket , the SchönerTagTicket NRW or the Münsterland tariff , which are also valid for trips to or from Osnabrück. In addition, local transport on Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day (not a public holiday in Lower Saxony) is usually treated as on a working day in the direction of Osnabrück.

Rail transport

Rail traffic in the Tecklenburger Land consists of two main routes and several regional routes that are important for both passenger and freight traffic. The main routes are the Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg and Löhne – Rheine lines , which are also heavily used in long-distance traffic. In regional traffic, the Oldenburg – Osnabrück and the Tecklenburger Nordbahn are particularly noteworthy. Overall, the Tecklenburger Land is very closely developed in terms of rail traffic. There was hardly a place that was far from it before the closure of railway lines.

Wanne-Eickel – Hamburg railway line

The route runs in the southwest through the town of Lengerich and the Kattenvenne district of the municipality of Lienen . It is one of the most important railway lines in Germany. The Lengerich Tunnel is the northernmost low mountain range tunnel in Germany and is used to underpass the Teutoburg Forest. This facility is also the only tunnel on this double-track railway line that is electrified with an overhead line. The route of the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg line runs through Cologne - Ruhr area - Münster - Lengerich - Osnabrück - Bremen - Hamburg .

Löhne – Rheine railway line

The Löhne – Rheine railway line is seen as part of the AmsterdamBerlin line . It is a double-track, electrified line and is also one of the most important rail lines in the German rail network. There are many connections for companies or branches on it. These are the Uffeln harbor , the works railway line of the DSK Anthrazit Ibbenbüren (Ibbenbüren mine ) or the Teutoburg Forest Railway , which branches off at Ibbenbüren station.

Oldenburg – Osnabrück railway line

This railway line runs from Osnabrück main station to Wilhelmshaven via Oldenburg. In the area of the Lotte community, it touches the Tecklenburger Land. The railway line is owned by Deutsche Bahn. NordWestBahn has been taking over passenger transport since November 2000 . The route is single-track and not electrified.

With its course via Osnabrück - Westerkappeln - Mettingen - Recke - Rheine the railway line opens up the northern Tecklenburger Land. A reactivation of the Recke - Osnabrück section for passenger traffic is currently under discussion. The route is single-track and not electrified. Most of the freight traffic has been suspended since December 2012. The route has been in discontinuation since 2014 without regular use , but museum railways still run regularly.

Ibbenbüren – Hövelhof railway line

The Ibbenbüren – Hövelhof railway line runs via Ibbenbüren - Tecklenburg - Lengerich - Bad Iburg - Gütersloh . The route has been closed to traffic between Brochterbeck and Tecklenburg in sections since 2010 . In the further course there are further interruptions around Bad Iburg, so that currently only shuttle trips of the museum railway take place. Several slides of the route as a result of the flood in August 2010 were to blame. The owner TWE is making efforts to shut down the route. However, this is only possible if there is no buyer for the route. In the event of a sale, TWE would be forced to hand over the route in a roadworthy condition. There are currently specific buyers and the idea of reactivating the route as a museum railway to the State Garden Show in Bad Iburg 2018 . The single-track route is not electrified.

future

Tecklenburger Nordbahn

Display board in Osnabrück station for the special trip of the Tecklenburger Nordbahn to Recke.

The future development of local transport in northern Tecklenburger Land depends largely on the decisions made by local government. The Steinfurt district is making efforts to reactivate the Tecklenburger Nordbahn for local passenger transport. The district wants to create a quick connection to the city of Osnabrück, as today's express bus connection depends on unpredictable road traffic influences. With a view to the closure of the Ibbenbüren colliery, the aim is to ensure that the neighboring towns of Recke, Mettingen, Westerkappeln and Wersen remain attractive places to live for working people (commuters). In contrast, there are reactivation and maintenance costs in the millions.

Teutoburg Forest Railway

The Ibbenbüren – Hövelhof line is threatened with closure. Necessary investments in the network between Ibbenbüren and Versmold have not been made for many years . The result is interruptions in the route at Bad Iburg and Tecklenburg. Overall, the route offers high tourist potential for the Osnabrück and Tecklenburger Land. There have also been initial talks about selling the route.

Lotte train station

Former Lotte train station

The former Lotte train station is at the intersection of KBS 375 and the L597 road. However, no trains have stopped here since the early 1990s. Since the train station is in the middle between the two districts Lotte and Wersen and the distance to Lotte is about two kilometers and to Wersen about three kilometers, the offer of the railway could not prevail against the more frequent regular buses. In the expert report Stadtbahn for the Osnabrück region it is proposed to build a new station on the main line Kbs. 375 Osnabrück – Rheine . This should be closer to the Lotter town center, at the intersection with Cappelner Straße. However, there are no concrete plans for this.

Velpe train station

Also at the Kbs. 375 Osnabrück – Rheine was a train station in the Hambüren / Velpe district of Westerkappeln until the 1990s. There are concrete plans and considerations for reactivation. It is not possible to set up a new stop in the old area of the train station, as it no longer meets the safety guidelines from today's perspective. According to a feasibility study, reactivation at this location is not possible due to the lack of space for a passing track and the narrow main track.

Two locations are currently in the focus of planning. These are locations west of the level crossing on Tecklenburger Strasse. The first option provides for a stop in the Sommerkamp area. The second option is to close the railway underpass in Velpe and convert it into a pedestrian tunnel. In this case the breakpoint would be in the Hollesch area.
