DB Regio AG and DB Vertrieb GmbH designate flat-rate offers in local transport with the individual federal states as the geographical area of ​​validity as country tickets , which are sold in cooperation with the transport associations in Germany . Country tickets were introduced from March 1997, initially for Bavaria . Today there are corresponding offers for all federal states; However, the Hessenticket is not a DB offer, but a joint offer of the three Hessian transport associations. The tickets for North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony also have a special status as an integral part of the respective state tariffs. In 2006 more than ten million country tickets were sold for the first time.

Many of the tariff features of the regional tickets are identical to those of the former Schöne-Wochen-Ticket and the Quer-durch-Land-Ticket . They are valid for any number of journeys on local or regional trains ( IRE , RE , ( SE ,) RB , S-Bahn ) of the DB and other railway companies. The recognition of the use of other public transport ( trams , light rail vehicles , underground trains and buses as well as regional buses ) is regulated very differently, various transport associations accept it in full or in part.

The country tickets can be purchased for one to five people and in many cases allow one parent or grandparent couple or part to take along any number of their own children or grandchildren under 15 years of age. In contrast to this, the North Rhine-Westphalia ticket is available either as a single version or for small groups of up to five people. Only the regulations for the Brandenburg-Berlin and Hesse tickets differ significantly here. These are always valid for five people, whereby the Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket provides a restricted and the Hessenticket no extended transport policy for (grand) children.

The country tickets are valid from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. of the following day, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. of the following day, the night country tickets are valid from Sunday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. of the following day, on the nights before Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays until 7 a.m. of the following day.

With the exception of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg-Berlin, there is a basic price for one person and a surcharge for each additional person (maximum group size of five travelers, children belonging to the family are mostly also possible). Dogs traveling with you are generally counted towards the number of passengers. The following rule has existed since December 2010: "Dogs are treated like an adult for the calculation of the number of participants. If you bring more than two of your own children / grandchildren with you, only one adult can be replaced by a dog. ” a. The reason for this is that a large number of passengers perceive flat rate regulations as unfair if one or two people pay as much as five people. Exceptions are the Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket and the Hessenticket, these tickets are valid for five people, the North Rhine-Westphalia Ticket is available either as a single version for one person or as a mini-group ticket for five people.

For timetable change 2005/2006 in December 2005 the validity of the tickets countries, which until then were mostly only available Monday to Friday, was extended to the weekends. In Baden-Wuerttemberg , Bavaria , Berlin and Brandenburg , regional night ticket offers were also introduced, which are valid for up to five people from 6 p.m. and until 6 or 7 a.m. the following day.

In the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, state tickets for first class use are also offered. In Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, surcharge tickets are also available, which can be purchased per person and enable the use of 1st class for all regional tickets.

If you are arriving or continuing your journey after the ticket is still valid, a ticket must be purchased up to or from the last scheduled stop in the area of ​​validity of the respective country ticket. Two country tickets for neighboring countries can be combined with each other without additional payments in the border area.

In order to prevent illegal resale or free transfer, the first and last name of all travelers must be entered on the tickets with a ballpoint pen or fountain pen; this applies to all country tickets with the exception of the Hessenticket. At the ticket inspection, the ticket must be presented in conjunction with a valid, official photo ID (identity card or passport).

All country tickets are available free of charge at DB ticket machines, in DB service stores and on the Internet. When purchasing from DB travel centers or travel agencies with a DB license, there is a fee of 2 euros, regardless of the number of travelers, and a shipping fee of 3.50 euros for orders made by telephone via the DB service hotline. The country tickets are also available at ticket sales points and at stationary and mobile ticket machines of the private railways, which are members of the tariff association of federal and non-federal railways in Germany (TBNE). The country tickets are also available from recognized transport companies within transport associations and tariff associations.

However, when buying some country tickets, for example the Lower Saxony ticket, you cannot collect bahn.bonus points.

History and special features of the individual country tickets

The country tickets were originally a supplement to the “Have a Nice Weekend Ticket”, which allowed nationwide travel on weekends. Their validity is therefore limited to working days and weekly holidays. This restriction was gradually lifted for all countries in order to offer attractive country offers in terms of regionalization of local and regional transport. Another development step was the single versions available for most countries today.

In 2006 more than nine million national tickets were sold. This corresponds to an increase of 17 percent over the previous year.

In 2009, the DB introduced a nationwide valid ticket, the Quer-durch-Land-Ticket , valid from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. the following day as a supplement to the Nice Weekend Ticket, which was only valid on Saturdays and Sundays . For the first time, instead of a flat-rate arrangement, a surcharge had to be paid from the second person traveling on. This offer was abolished again in January 2010 and the possibility of a problem-free stringing of country tickets was created as a replacement. With the 2010/2011 timetable change in December 2010, the Quer -übers-Land-Ticket was reintroduced as a regular offer - initially with a time limit until December 2011 - and is now permanently available. The Have a Nice Weekend Ticket was abolished at the end of 2019.

The last further development concerns the possibility of taking dogs with you, which was previously excluded with these tickets. In the countries in which on the basis of the network or the state tariff ( NRW tariff ) no free take-away is possible, a take-away offer has been available since 2010 that counts towards the number of people, whereby the single tickets do not allow dogs to be taken along.

With the timetable change on December 12, 2010, the previous flat-rate validity for up to five passengers was canceled for several national tickets. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Ticket, Rhineland-Palatinate or Saarland Ticket and the Schleswig-Holstein Ticket have been converted to a price structure that is comparable to the Quer-durch-Land-Ticket. The price of these tickets is now calculated from a basic price for a passenger plus a surcharge for each additional person traveling. On June 12, 2011, the Lower Saxony ticket was also adapted to this price system, followed by the corresponding tickets for Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia on December 11, 2011.

Baden-Wuerttemberg ticket

The Baden-Württemberg-Ticket is available in all trains of product class C (IRE, RE, RB and S-Bahn) and in the other means of transport of the transport associations in Baden-Württemberg , but not on the Lake Constance ferry connections, the White Fleet or cross-border City bus services between Ulm and Neu-Ulm . The Baden-Württemberg-Ticket 1st class is valid for the same conditions in all means of transport, in the trains also in 1st class.

In addition to the Baden-Württemberg-Ticket valid in 2nd class, a surcharge card can also be purchased, which enables the use of 1st class on the trains.

In rail traffic, the ticket is also valid to certain destination stations and on "transit routes" outside of Baden-Württemberg, e.g. B. to Würzburg , Lindau Hbf , Kreuzlingen , Schaffhausen and the Basel SBB train station , on the left bank connection from Mannheim via Speyer to Karlsruhe and on the Illertalbahn between Ulm and Memmingen .

Bayern ticket

The Bayern ticket is valid in Bavaria on all local trains and means of transport of the transport associations as well as on most bus routes. The use of the 1st class is possible with the tickets valid in the 2nd class Bayern-Ticket and Bayern-Ticket Nacht, also with a surcharge card, which can be additionally purchased per person.

The Bayernticket is valid in all transport associations and most bus routes. Brandenburg-Berlin ticket

Hessenticket

The Hessenticket is a specialty among the country tickets. It is not an offer of the DB, but a joint offer of the Hessian transport associations in the area of ​​the state of Hesse ( NVV , RMV and VRN ), therefore all means of transport (buses, trams, underground and suburban trains as well as local trains [RB and RE ]) usable with it. In contrast to the other country tickets, the Hessenticket is not sold nationwide, but only sold in Hesse and the areas of extended validity. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ticket

The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern-Ticket was introduced as a joint offer of the states Mecklenburg-Vorpommern , Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg . Lower Saxony ticket

In June 2013, a state tariff was introduced with the Lower Saxony tariff, which replaces the previous DB local transport tariff. The Lower Saxony ticket is a ticket offer in the Lower Saxony tariff and is therefore no longer a DB offer.

The Lower Saxony ticket is valid for journeys on local trains in Lower Saxony , Bremen and Hamburg . In addition, it applies to journeys by public transport (subway, tram, bus) in Lower Saxony, Bremen and HVV-Ringen AB, which include the entire Hanseatic city of Hamburg and individual locations in Schleswig-Holstein.

The ticket is valid on the entire railway line Bad Bentheim - Rheine - Osnabrück - Minden - Bückeburg as well as on the Weser Railway ( Löhne - Hameln ) beyond the state border in North Rhine-Westphalia. When traveling to Münster, however , the Lower Saxony ticket is only valid for the connection via Rheine. Otherwise the validity of the ticket ends in Natrup-Hagen before the Lower Saxony state border. However, the Lower Saxony ticket and tariff are not the same on railway lines in North Rhine-Westphalia, whereby the area of ​​validity of the Lower Saxony ticket is smaller with the exception of the Holzminden – Ottbergen section. North Rhine-Westphalia

SchöneTagTicket NRW for one person (single), 2009

The SchönerTagTicket NRW was the first state ticket valid in all transport associations. It could already be purchased on the Internet on December 14, 2001. As of August 2004, the ticket for the planned NRW tariff was offered as a “advance service of a flat rate” and thus became a regular tariff offer. In addition to an inexpensive single version, a short-haul ticket for 2 hours of free travel within the state was also available ( SchöneFahrtTicket NRW , but without the possibility of returning). Today these tickets are firmly integrated into the national tariff as "package deals". Since the country is completely supplied by transport associations or communities, the SchönerTagTicket is valid nationwide in almost all local and regional transport. (Night buses in OWL are excluded.) The Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD) criticizes the current status of the price system because it is only available as a single version or for mini groups of up to five people. This makes the final prices too high. While in other federal states a person can purchase a regional ticket for as little as 23 euros, it is significantly more expensive in North Rhine-Westphalia (29.50 euros), and smaller groups of two or three people are also disadvantaged. The VCD demands a graduation of the ticket price with a fixed price per person and an additional fee for a maximum of four passengers, similar to the regional tickets of other federal states.

Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland ticket

The Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket and the Saarland Ticket are valid for both countries. With the state ticket in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, as well as on the transition routes in Baden-Württemberg, bicycles can be taken free of charge; in the transition area to NRW, a bicycle ticket NRW is required.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket + Lux, which was newly introduced for the 2014/2015 timetable change, is valid in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland as well as in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg . Saxony / Saxony-Anhalt / Thuringia ticket

The Saxony-Ticket , the Saxony-Anhalt-Ticket and the Thuringia-Ticket are valid for all three countries. The ticket is recognized in the central Saxony (VMS), Vogtland (VVV), Upper Lusatia-Lower Silesia (ZVON), Central Germany (MDV ), Central Thuringia (VMT) and Magdeburg region (marego) transport associations and can also be used there on buses and trams. Bicycles can be taken along free of charge in Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia as well as on the trains of the Saxon transport associations VMS and VVV and in the MDV.

In addition, the Saxony-Bohemia Ticket has been available since June 10, 2007, a cross-border variant with which you can travel in Saxony and on routes close to the border in the Czech Republic. The Czech area of ​​validity is identical to that of the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket.

Schleswig-Holstein ticket

The Schleswig-Holstein-Ticket is a joint offer for the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg (→ validity of the tickets in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund). It is not valid on buses of most regional transport companies - especially on the islands. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Schleswig-Holstein ticket is also recognized on the trains of the Usedomer Bäderbahn (UBB), the Ostseeland Verkehr (OLA) and the East German Railway (ODEG). It was also valid until December 2012 to the Polish station Szczecin Główny and in urban traffic from Szczecin . However, this regulation continues to apply to the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Nice Weekend tickets . To Szczecin there are alternative single tickets that can be purchased from the train attendant from Grambow (price 2.50 € for a single journey or 10 złoty when buying at the Szczecin train station), as a foreign package deal on the DB train without recognition of BahnCard 25 or 50 and not valid in local public transport (ÖPNV) in Szczecin.

The offer is (in contrast to North Rhine-Westphalia) not part of the state tariff introduced at the end of 2002. The Schleswig-Holstein tariff therefore offers its own network tickets, most of which are also recognized in bus transport. At the end of 2010, the previous package deal for up to five people was abandoned in favor of a surcharge regulation. This resulted in u. a. a slight discount for single travelers; a single version was never introduced for this national ticket.

Validity of the tickets in the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund (HVV)

The Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tickets are recognized by the Hamburger Verkehrsverbund in the Hamburg AB tariff area , but not in the subsequent rings "C" to "E" in Lower Saxony or Schleswig-Holstein. In addition to Hamburg, the AB tariff area includes neighboring cities such as Großhansdorf and Schenefeld. In these outer rings they apply according to the conditions of the respective country ticket. All means of local transport can be used, including the HADAG Elbe ferries from Landungsbrücken or Teufelsbrück . For express buses , a surcharge is necessary in accordance with the regulation on HVV day tickets.
