The 1972/73 season was the 26th regular staging of the National League B , the second highest Swiss league in ice hockey . The NLB champion Zürcher SC went straight into the National League A in. The EHC Uzwil and the HC Sion were relegated to the third highest division, the first division.

mode

The league was divided into two groups with eight participants each. The four best-placed teams in each group qualified for the final round, the winners of which went straight to the NLA. The remaining eight teams contested a relegation round, the last two of which were relegated directly to the third division. Each team received two points for a win and one point for a tie. If you lost, you didn't get any points.
