The Lippeaue nature reserve from Wethmar (district of Lünen) to Lünen is located in the area of ​​the city of Lünen in the Unna district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Area description

The approximately 105.5 hectare area was placed under nature protection in 2007 under the code number UN-054 . It extends east of the core city of Lünen along the Lippe . The B 54 runs to the west and northwest, and the L 654 and L 736 state roads and the Datteln-Hamm Canal run to the southeast . To the west, the 217 hectare Lippeaue nature reserve extends from Lünen to Horst lock .

In the predominantly agriculturally used Lippe floodplain near Beckinghausen there is an alluvial forest area with a Lippe side ditch. The Lippe is dammed up here by the Beckinghausen weir. A near-natural fish pass is under construction in the area of ​​the alluvial forest area to the north . To the northwest of it up to the Lippe side ditch there is still a willow alluvial forest that is rich in structure and old wood and interspersed with hybrid poplars. A path accompanied by hybrid poplars borders this alluvial forest area with a 5 hectare arable area to the west.

Protection goals and measures

Preservation and optimization of the biological condition of the Lippe and the adjoining floodplain habitats, in particular preservation of floodplain forest relics and development of floodplain forest through succession with its typical fauna and flora, with the abandonment of forestry and agricultural use. Preservation and optimization of a Lippeauen area with near-natural softwood floodplain habitat and a. for endangered water and songbird species. Preservation and optimization of a Lippe floodplain area with valuable backwaters and extensive wetlands. Preservation and optimization of a typical, structurally rich lowland floodplain including a typical lowland stream and the surrounding grassland and woody complex with several loops of the lip, oxbow lakes, endangered plant communities and numerous Red List species.
