The Mühlenbruch nature reserve is located in the area of the town of Bergkamen in the Unna district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Area description

A complex nature reserve, consisting of a larger forest area, a wet fallow partly covered with reed and several ponds of different sizes. The Seseke flows south of the NSG .

The forest area is very heterogeneous due to changing soil moisture and forestry measures . Larger surface portions take an old beech stand, a beech oak coppice with a lot of book in the second tree layer and a Stieleichen- and a Roteichenbestand middle-tree wood age one, small areas are younger sycamore, larch - ash - and alder stocks and an older poplar inventory ago . Alder and ash stocks accumulate in the hollows of the terrain created by subsidence . The black elder dominates among poplars and sometimes also among sycamore trees. The area, which is usually well shielded by a forest mantle, is crossed by a temporarily water-bearing stream from southwest to northeast, while a pipeline joins the stream in the east. There is a small forest cemetery on the southwest edge . The forest is a popular recreational area . A wetland ( bird sanctuary ) created by mountain subsidence connects to the forest in the northeast . The ruderal vegetation of mainly field horsetail , goldenrod and common bluegrass dominates towards the adjacent field, towards the forest the area becomes more humid and there is water in places. Rush and bulrush populations have settled here. Some dead trees are in the reed stock. Between the wetland or forest and the L654 country road (Lünener Straße) in the northeast, there are arable land. In the southeast, another wetland area, created by mountain subsidence, adjoins the forest. The subsidence occurred about 20 years ago and has led to the development of several small and one larger ponds. The smaller ponds are largely silted up and covered with bulrushes and shaggy willowherb , the larger pond is surrounded by rushes and bulrushes with sprinkled alders and shrub willows. Mainly stinging nettle, goldenrod and horsetail meadows, thistle-rich ruderal meadows and bushes adjoin the waters . In the south there is an older tree willow stock of broken willow and white willow with stinging nettle-rich undergrowth; along a path that crosses the area there is a z. T. hop-covered hedge. On the eastern edge there is a reforestation of hornbeams and hazel bushes (buffer zone), on the western edge there is a shrub-rich slope wood. The still young area offers a valuable habitat for water birds and amphibians . The information on the animal species and the plant species at the mountain sinking pond come from earlier mappings.
