The nature reserve forests near Cappenberg-West is located in the Unna district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Area description

The approximately 253 hectare area, which consists of three sub - areas and was placed under nature protection under the code number UN-050 in 2007 , extends on both sides of the state road L 810 northwest and southwest of Cappenberg , a district of the town of Selm . The southern section extends to the Lüner area and extends to the municipal cemetery Lünen - Altlünen .

Protection goals and measures

The protection goal is the preservation, production and development of nationally important biotopes of rare and endangered animal and plant species typical of the landscape within a large-scale forest complex with beech and oak and hornbeam forests with the greatest possible protection or promotion of the corresponding herbaceous layer as well as streams that are worthy of protection in connection with the forest and source areas ; • Leave to natural development • Regulate the groundwater level • Create a wood storage area • Promote tree species typical of the habitat • Promote natural regeneration of woody trees typical of the habitat • Use rope hoist • Preserve dead wood.
