Niederpöbel is a district of the Saxon large district town Dippoldiswalde in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains .

In 1764 Niederpöbel belonged to the Pirna office . Later the offices of Pirna and Altenberg each had shares in the place. From 1856 to 1875, Niederpöbel belonged to the Dippoldiswalde court office , then to the Dippoldiswalde district administration . In 1900 the area of ​​the district was 15 hectares . In 1925, the population of Oberpöbel was divided into 341 Evangelical Lutheran residents and ten Catholics . In 1920, Niederpöbel was to be connected to a narrow-gauge railway with the Pöbeltalbahn , with a gauge of 750 mm from Schmiedeberg through the Pöbeltal to Moldau. The project was canceled in 1923, but parts of the completed railway line can still be found today. The still independent place was incorporated into Schmiedeberg in 1935.

During the GDR era, there was a company holiday camp of VEB Waggonbau Dessau for the children of its employees in the Pöbeltal .

In 1952 Niederpöbel became part of the Dippoldiswalde district as Schmiedeberg's district, which became part of the Weißeritz district in 1994 . In August 2008, Niederpöbel became part of the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district, which was formed from the Saxon Switzerland district and the Weißeritz district . Niederpöbel has been part of Dippoldiswalde since January 1, 2014.
