Nikolai Wladimirowitsch Kuljomin ( Russian: Николай Владимирович Кулёмин ; English transcription: Nikolay Vladimirovich Kulemin ; born July 14, 1986 in Magnitogorsk , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the HK Metallurgy of the Continental Hockey League since July 2018 . The winger previously spent ten years in the National Hockey League , during which time he worked for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders . With the Russian national team , he won gold medals at the 2012 and 2014 World Championships .
Career
Nikolai Kuljomin began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Russian Super League , for which he was active as a professional from 2003 to 2008. There he had passed through the youth department and was first used in 2003 in the second substitute playing in the Pervaya League . During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 2006 in the second round as a total of 44 players by the Toronto Maple Leafs , with whom Kuljomin signed a three-year contract on June 25, 2007 after becoming the most valuable player in the past season Russia had been elected and won the championship with his club. Then the club and players agreed that Kulyomin could play for another year in Russia. Since the summer of 2008 he was in the squad of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League .
Due to the NHL lockout , Kuljomin played again between September and December 2012 for his home club Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Continental Hockey League .
In July 2014, Kuljomin left the Maple Leafs and joined the New York Islanders . These did not extend his contract, which expired after the 2017/18 season, so that the attacker subsequently returned to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in his home country.
International
For Russia , Kuljomin took part with the U18 national team in the 2004 U18 World Ice Hockey Championship , with the U20 national team in the 2006 U20 World Ice Hockey Championship and seven world championships with the A national team. In 2006 he made his debut at senior level and won the bronze medal the following year, before the silver medal in 2010 and 2015 and the gold medal in 2012 and 2014. He also represented his home country at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
