Nilüfer is a town in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Bursa and at the same time a district in the northwest of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Bursa (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 1986 . According to an older city logo, Nilüfer was raised to Belediye in 1987 and also a district town.

The district is located in the northern center of the province and includes part of the city center of Bursa. It borders in the west on Mustafakemalpaşa and Karacabey , in the northwest on Mudanya , in the north on the Sea of Marmara , in the northeast on Gemlik , in the east on Gürsu , Yıldırım and Osmangazi and in the south on Orhaneli . The capital Nilüfer is north of the E 90 , which crosses the city of Bursa from west to east and , coming from Çanakkale , leads to Ankara . The D-575 trunk road from Bursa to Yalova runs through the district from south to north. In the west lies part of the Uluabat Gölü lake . The river Nilüfer Çayı flows through the district from east to west, which flows northwest of the lake into the Kocaçay , which shortly afterwards flows into the Sea of Marmara.

The name of the city goes back to the Nilüfer Çayı, which in turn was named after Nilüfer Hatun .

history

Since a regional reform in 2013, the Ilçe (district) has been identical in area and population to the district town. The existing 42 Mahalles (districts) of Nilüfer ( Ilçe merkezi ) were preserved and the 22 villages of Köy were converted into Mahalles. Thus, the number of mahalles for this Ilçe rose to 64.
