At the XVIII. Olympic Games 1998 in Nagano was snowboarding for the first time an Olympic sport. Men and women each competed in two disciplines. The venues were Yakebitai-yama Mountain and Kanbayashi Snowboard Park (halfpipe), both in Yamanouchi .
