Dagmar Mair unter der Eggen , also called Dagi (born December 22, 1974 in Bruneck , South Tyrol ) is a former Italian snowboarder .

Career

First successes in the World Cup

Mair unter der Eggen started her international career with her debut in the Snowboard World Cup on November 24, 1994. Already in her first competition in the parallel slalom in Zell am See , Austria , she achieved her first World Cup points with eighth place and immediately found herself among the best in the world again. She also achieved significant World Cup points in the subsequent giant slalom World Cups in Zell am See and in Pitztal . At the giant slalom in Les Deux Alpes in January 1995, she barely missed the podium as fifth. At the end of January 1995 she achieved her best individual result with fourth place in Bad Hindelang .

Despite these good performances, she subsequently started in FIS races outside the World Cup and won the races in Kitzbühel and Olang here . She finished the World Cup season 12th in the overall parallel World Cup ranking. In the overall ranking for the giant slalom she was 13th and in the slalom she was 18th.

Breakthrough at the top of the world

At the beginning of the 1995/96 World Cup season , Mair started again in the World Cup under the Eggen and already achieved fourth place in the first giant slalom in Zell am See. In the same discipline, she stood on December 10, 1995 in Bardonecchia for the first time on the podium and was third. At the snowboard world championship in Lienz in 1996, which took place five weeks later , she only started in the parallel slalom and finished in 13th place. As a result, she was able to work constantly on her performance and continue to improve her results. In Calgary she reached a new record with second place in the parallel slalom. After she only missed the top 10 in the following World Cups, she finished 10th in the overall World Cup ranking at the end of the season.

The 1996/97 World Cup season got off to a promising start with a tenth place in the giant slalom in Sestriere , before she was able to step onto the podium again just one day later on the same route in slalom with second place. She also successfully prevailed in Whistler and finished third in the giant slalom. Shortly afterwards she was part of the Italian squad for the 1997 in San Candido . After she only achieved a disappointing 33rd place in her actual parade discipline giant slalom, she won the silver medal in slalom two days later and gold in parallel slalom two days later. After the world championship, with a few exceptions, she consistently achieved good placements within the top ten and in the end, in addition to seventh place in the overall World Cup ranking, she also achieved fourth place in the Slalom World Cup and ninth in the Giant Slalom World Cup.

In the 1997/98 World Cup season that followed , she started weakly with a 40th place in the giant slalom in Tignes , before just a good two weeks later in the parallel slalom in Sölden she was able to achieve her first and only World Cup victory of her career. This remained her only podium until January 1998. It was not until the giant slalom in Innichen that she reached second place again. After a short excursion in the Continental Cup, where she finished third in Olang, Mair started under the harrows at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan . There she finished seventh in the giant slalom. At the end of the season, she finished second again in Les Gets . With two more mixed results in Tandådalen , she finished her best World Cup season of her career and ended up sixth in the overall World Cup standings. In the Slalom World Cup she repeated her success from the previous year and finished fourth again.

First drop in performance

At the beginning of the 1998/99 World Cup season , Mair under the Eggen could no longer build on the performances from previous years. After she could not achieve a top 10 position until the beginning of December, she switched to the Continental Cup for two races, where she came second in the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden . Back in the World Cup in January 1999, she was able to come out in the top 20 again, but remained far below the expectations of her coach.

At the Snowboard World Championships in 1999 in Berchtesgaden, she was able to achieve her best result in the world championship with eighth place in the parallel slalom. In the giant slalom she was only in 40th place, in the parallel giant slalom only in 16th place. Even after the world championship, it took until the season finale in Olang for Mair under the harrows to make it back to the top of the world. After a sixth place in the parallel giant slalom, she was ninth in the parallel slalom.

At the Italian Championships in Ratschings in 1999 , she won silver in the parallel slalom and just barely missed the podium in the giant slalom with fourth place. After the World Cup season, which was disappointing for her, she only finished 42nd in the overall standings, the worst result of her career.

Fight back to the top of the world

Mair unter der Eggen set himself the goal for the 1999/2000 World Cup season to find his way back to old strength. After a promising seventh place in the giant slalom in Zell am See, however, she was again unable to keep her performances constant and therefore started the newly created European Snowboard Cup for the first time in February . Here she achieved a victory and a third place in Ostin . Strengthened by this success, she continued in the World Cup. However, there was still no success.

After Mair under the Eggen remained without a medal at the Italian Championships in 2000, she surprised in the first race of the 2000/01 season in Tignes with a fourth place in the giant slalom. In the same discipline, she was able to achieve a top 10 position in Gstaad in January, also in seventh place. After another sixth place in the parallel giant slalom in Kronplatz , she started at the 2001 Snowboard World Championship in Madonna di Campiglio and won the bronze medal in the giant slalom. In addition, she achieved a good seventh place in the parallel giant slalom and 23rd place in the parallel slalom. At the end of the season, she almost managed to get another podium in Ruka . In the end, however, it was only fifth in the parallel slalom.

At the Italian Championships in 2001, Mair was eighth in the parallel giant slalom and in the parallel slalom.

Olympia 2002 and end of career

For the 2001/02 Olympic World Cup season , Mair had to fight again with poor results under the harrows. She was only able to finish in the top ten in four of 14 World Cup races. Often she only got one place behind the top 20. Nevertheless, she started at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . She reached ninth place in the parallel giant slalom. After a few more mixed World Cups, Mair won bronze twice at the Italian Championships in Madesimo in 2002 .

In the first World Cups of the 2002/03 World Cup season , it became apparent that Mair unter der Eggen, who is now 27, can no longer keep up with the sometimes much younger world leaders. After she reached eighth place again at the Snowboard World Championship 2003 in Kreischberg , she ended her active career as a snowboarder after the season in 27th place in the parallel World Cup overall ranking. In the general overall World Cup, she could no longer place in her last season.

Private

In addition to snowboarding, Mair unter der Eggen also does swimming , mountain biking and windsurfing . She lives in Sand in Taufers .
