For the first time in Olympic history, a women's ski jumping competition took place at the 2014 Winter Olympics . The normal hill jumped on February 11th in the ski jumping complex RusSki Gorki in the district of Esto-Sadok of Krasnaja Polyana .

Carina Vogt from Germany surprisingly became the first female Olympic champion in women's ski jumping. The athlete, who started for the Degenfeld ski club , was 1.1 points ahead of Coline Mattel from France after the first round . The favorites Sara Takanashi from Japan and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz from Austria only finished third and fifth respectively after the first round.

Iraschko-Stolz, however, set the best distance with her second jump of 104.5 after 98.5 meters in the first round. As Vogt later told in an interview, her knees trembled from tension in the second run, so that she had to land earlier than planned and only jumped 97.5 meters. However, she was able to place herself in front of the Austrian thanks to better posture grades. The runner-up in the first round Coline Mattel from France won the bronze medal. The Japanese Sara Takanashi missed the medal ranks with fourth place.
