One Punch Man ( Jap. ワンパンマン , Hepburn : Wanpanman , natural notation : ONE PUNCH MAN ) is a since 2009 ongoing Japanese webcomic series of artist ONE , also known as anime has been implemented. A remake has also been released digitally since 2012. In addition to One, Yūsuke Murata was involved as a draftsman . The new manga appeared in Tonari no Young Jump by the Japanese publisher Shueisha . The story is a parody of the superhero genre and quickly caught on. One said the webcomic had a total of 7.9 million views in June 2012.

The series belongs to the genre his and is about the young hero Saitama. Due to its strong powers, it can defeat opponents with a single blow. This ability bores and frustrates him at some point, so that he goes on the search for equal opponents.

action

Saitama is a bald young hero. He lives in the city of Z, where various monsters appear and cause damage. He only became a hero as a hobby. When he faced a monster one day and couldn't do anything, he trained hard for three years (according to his own statement, 100 squats, 100 sit-ups, 100 push-ups and 10 km run per day, no air conditioning in summer and no heating in winter use). Saitama now has unbelievably great powers and always defeats his opponents in combat with just one blow. The bald head arose from hard training. When the cyborg Genos meets him, he joins Saitama in admiration for his strength. Genos searches for the cyborg who destroyed his hometown and killed his parents. Saitama, meanwhile, suffers from his invincibility, as he defeats any opponent with just one blow (and usually kills him), even if he only hits lightly and thus never experiences a real challenge.

In order to gain more recognition and support for their exploits, Saitama and Genos join the Hero Association. The aptitude test determined the rank with which they entered: Genos achieved the full number of points and thus class S, which is still ahead of class A. Even if Saitama breaks all scales in the physical test, he does so badly in the written test that it is only sufficient for class C. Nevertheless, both are motivated, but are immediately confronted with the rules and demands of society and the other heroes, both of whom are not always well-disposed. Since his strength is incomprehensible to most of his fellow heroes, he is often called either a charlatan or mistaken for a villain. Outwardly, Saitama is always calm, but inwardly, such accusations often hit him hard.

Publications

One-Punch Man was first created in 2009 as a webcomic series by the artist One. In 2012, Yūsuke Murata signed up and asked One for a republication for the digital edition of Tonari no Young Jump magazine , an offshoot of Weekly Shōnen Jump , the Japanese Shueisha publisher. The series has been running since June 2012. In 2014, it was nominated for the 7th Manga Taisho Prize.

The manga has been published in German by Kazé Manga since October 2016 in 20 volumes so far. An English translation is published by Viz Media , a French one by Kurokawa , a Spanish one by Editorial Ivréa and a Chinese one by Tong Li Publishing .

Anime

Cosplayer as One Punch Man

In 2015 Studio Madhouse produced an anime adaptation of One-Punch Man for television. The director took Shingo Natsume and the screenplay was written by Tomohiro Suzuki . The character design was created by Chikashi Kubota and the artistic directors were Shigemi Ikeda and Yukiko Maruyama .

On September 6, 2015, the first two episodes were pre-screened at the Saitama City Cultural Center . TV Tokyo showed the series from October 5 to December 21, 2015, and later it was shown on other channels. Animax shows an English version in Asia, J-One airs a French dubbed version. A Spanish translation was broadcast by Canal + Series Xtra and a version with German subtitles was published by the streaming platform Anime on Demand . An Italian dubbing also appeared.

For the Japanese publication on DVD and Blu-ray, an OVA was produced for each of the six volumes .

On February 28, 2017, the premiere of the first three episodes with German synchronization took place as part of the Kazé Anime Nights 2017 in over 130 cinemas across Germany and Austria through Kazé Anime .
The first four episodes were published from March 6 to 27, 2017 at the rate of one episode per week with German synchronization on Anime on Demand . Likewise, episodes five to eight were published from June 19 to July 10, 2017, and episodes nine to twelve were published from September 4 to 25, 2017.
On March 31, June 30 and September 29, 2017, all episodes of the first season were released in three volumes in German dubbed versions on DVD and Blu-ray by Kazé Anime. In addition, each volume contains two OVAs in German synchronized version.

A second season was announced in the fall of 2016. The broadcast began on April 10, 2019 in Japan, with a summary of the first season aired a week earlier. Anime on Demand will offer the series with German subtitles shortly after it has been broadcast; due to the time difference, this happens the day before the Japanese premiere.
