The Ortenauer Narrenbund (ONB) is an association of carnival guilds in the Ortenau . It was founded on September 10, 1981 in Appenweier . The Narrenbund is organized in the form of a registered association . He is a member of the working group Alemannische Heimat e. V. Freiburg. Since 2012 the “Narrenpalais” in Kehl has been the seat of the association.

The ONB is the youngest of the three fools' associations active in Ortenau. The ONB's member guilds come from the Ortenaukreis and the Rastatt and Freudenstadt districts in the northwest of the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival (mostly called “Fasent” or “Fasend” in Ortenau). The area is located at the interface to the Carnival with Rhenish characteristics, so that the carnival in numerous places is characterized by both traditions. In the late 20th century, older carnival associations often took one or more Alemannic groups into their ranks.

Association history

Founding year 1981

The Ortenauer Narrenbund (ONB) was founded on September 10, 1981, when many guilds in the Ortenau were striving for an orderly union. The ONB association area is located at the interface between the Alemannic carnival and the Rhenish carnival. So it is not surprising that these two major elements of German Carnival are at home in this association. The Ortenauer Narrenbund sees its working basis firmly anchored in the historically grown customs of the Carnival, which go back to the 1850s. In addition to the preservation and maintenance of customs in their proven, local and down-to-earth tradition, one of the tasks of the association is:

  • to promote and support the fool youth
  • to establish dance sport
  • to advise and help the guilds

Regions

The Narrenbund divides its distribution area into seven regions:

International contacts

There is a friendly relationship with the Swiss Carnival Association Hefari (Helvetischer Fasnachtsring); both associations have accepted each other as members. In February 2009, the “Ortenau meets Switzerland” meeting of the Ortenau Narrenbund and the “March and Höfe Fools' Symposium” (Switzerland) took place in Kehl.

The ONB has had a partnership with the Einhorn Saverne association from Saverne (Zabern) in Alsace since 1989 . In 2011 the Dutch carnival company De Kraonige Zwaone (Proud Swan) from Huissen was accepted into the ONB.

Individual figures are shown in italics in the table. Only fool figures of the Swabian-Alemannic tradition are mentioned. Many guilds also have music groups, guild councilors, standard-bearers and other guild figures. Other groups and individual characters such as Elferrat, Prinzenpaar, Tanzgarden and theater groups also belong to the more carnival-like associations in the ONB.
