Oberweg is a former municipality with 578 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in the Murtal district in Styria . The community is located in the judicial district of Judenburg . Since 2015 it has been incorporated into the community of Judenburg together with the previously independent community of Reifling as part of the Styrian community structural reform.

Geographical location

The place Oberweg is south of Judenburg . The area stretches along the Oberwegerbach on the slopes of the Seetal Alps . The highest point is the Scharfe Eck (2,364 m). Parts of the Seetaler Alpe military training area are also located in the area .

The former neighboring communities are, starting in the north clockwise: Sankt Peter ob Judenburg , Judenburg , Reifling , Sankt Wolfgang-Kienberg , Obdach , Kulm am Zirbitz , Sankt Marein bei Neumarkt , Sankt Lorenzen bei Scheifling .

Community structure

The community consists of the two cadastral communities and towns of the same name, Oberweg (530 inhabitants) and Ossach (46).

history

In 1334 Ossach was first mentioned as an area name, in 1443 an Osser ob Judenburg. From 1559 to 1600 there was iron ore mining on the Judenburgeralm . For a long time only a collection of farmhouses, Oberweg became a popular residential area for Jewish citizens from the late 19th century. As proven by Gründerzeithäuser and houses of the 1920s and 1930s in home style .

The political community Oberweg was established in 1849/50.

Since September 1, 2009, the municipality was entitled to use a coat of arms with the following appearance:

"Between red flanks and three golden winged lance tips each in blue, a golden, rooted and double-leafed Speik plant ."

population

According to the 2001 census, the community had 685 inhabitants. 98.8% of the population had Austrian citizenship. For the Roman Catholic Church to 79.9% of the population known for Protestant Church 2.8%, 15.3% were without religious confession.

Economy and Infrastructure

According to the 2001 census of workplaces , there were 20 workplaces with 96 employees in the municipality as well as 264 out-commuters and 162 in-commuters. There were 17 agricultural and forestry holdings (13 of them in the main occupation), which together farmed 885 ha (1999).

politics

The community has been dominated by the Social Democrats since 1960. The municipal council, which was dissolved on December 31, 2014, consisted of nine members and, since the municipal council election in 2010, has consisted of mandates from the following parties: 4 ÖVP and 5 SPÖ .

The last mayor was Johann Taferner, who took over the management of the community in 1999.
