East West is a nature reserve in the town of Zerbst / Anhalt in the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0054 is around 102  hectares . It is part of the bird sanctuary "Zerbster Land" and completely from the landscape conservation area surrounded "Zerbster country." The area has been under protection since October 1, 1990 (date of regulation: September 28, 1990). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld.

The nature reserve is located northwest of Zerbst / Anhalt in an agricultural landscape of the Fläming (in the east it borders directly on the Fläming Nature Park ) roughly between the Zerbst districts of Zernitz and Moritz . It serves to protect and maintain a habitat for the great bustard, which is threatened with extinction . The areas are farmed in accordance with the protection goal. The living conditions of the great bustard must be preserved or promoted during use.

Despite the protection status and the bustle-friendly management, it is assumed that the population of great bustards - there were still around 40 birds in the year of protection - has been reduced to below 20 due to disturbances, poisoning by pesticides, destruction of clutches and death of the animals by agricultural machinery .

The nature reserve is completely surrounded by other agricultural areas . It borders on agricultural roads and in the north on the former Berlin – Blankenheim railway line .
