Möster birches

The Möster birches are a nature reserve in the town of Raguhn-Jeßnitz in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0119 is around 54 hectares in size. It is largely part of the FFH area "Taube-Quellen und Auengebiet bei Möst" and surrounded by the landscape protection area "Middle Elbe". In the east it borders on the nature reserve " Steinhorste ". The area has been under protection since early 2004 (date of regulation: December 15, 2003). It replaces the nature reserve of the same name designated in 1926. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Anhalt-Bitterfeld.
The nature reserve is located south of Dessau-Roßlau in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve . It protects a flow moor in the Muldeaue on the edge of the Mosigkauer Heide, on the steep slope of which it borders in the west, fed by slope water . The area is no longer flooded due to the dikes in the hollow . It is predominantly characterized by near-natural forest communities, for which moor birch-alder quarry forest , black alder quarry forest and buckthorn bushes are characteristic. In the eastern area there is a common oak-hornbeam forest and a small area of hardwood floodplain forest . The forest areas have a high proportion of dead wood .
In the herbaceous layer of the forests grow u. a. Shivering grass harrow , medium larkspur , nodding pearl grass and forest rennet . Peat moss , bell heather , cranberries and round-leaved sundew grow in small, open bog areas . There are also small sedge beds with swamp fern and swamp violet . In the trenches in the nature reserve, types of water hose such as the small water hose and water spring can be found.
The nature reserve is rich in songbirds , of which around 50 species have been identified, including z. B. Feldschwirl and Fitis warbler , as well as various warbler species . Furthermore, the nature reserve buzzard , honey buzzard , red kite and kestrel as well as green , black , great spotted , medium and small woodpecker offer a suitable habitat. Reptiles are by forest lizard , sand lizard , slow-worm and grass snake represented.
The area drains to the pigeon via the Klingborngraben, which flows through the protected area .
