Otto von Briesen (General)

Karl Otto von Briesen (born August 20, 1832 in Kobershain , † August 19, 1905 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Otto came from the noble family von Briesen . He was the eldest son of the Prussian District Administrator Otto von Briesen (1804–1868) and his wife Aline, born von Obernitz (1809–1863).

Military career

Briesen visited the school in Torgau and entered on 27 November 1850 as three-year volunteer in the 20th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant and worked briefly from late October 1854 to early February 1855 in the 24th Infantry Regiment . Then Briesen returned to his regular regiment, was assigned to the Spandau rifle factory for four months and in June 1858 became adjutant of the 1st battalion. In the meantime he was promoted to prime lieutenant and served as regimental adjutant from December 1861 to the end of June 1865. He took part in the German War in 1866 and was promoted to captain and company commander at the end of October . In this capacity, Briesen led his company in the 1870/71 war against France in the battles of Vionville , Gravelotte , Orléans and Le Mans, as well as in the siege of Metz .

Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Briesen rose to major after the peace treaty in October 1873 and was transferred to the staff of the 2nd Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 82 in Göttingen on November 15, 1873 . For a year from February 20, 1875 he was commander of the 1st battalion and then commander of the Fusilier battalion in Einbeck . In this position, promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-October 1880 , he became a regular staff officer in mid-November 1883 and on February 17, 1885 under position à la suite with the command of the 8th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 64 (Prince Friedrich Carl von Prenzlau ) in Prenzlau instructed. With promotion to colonel , he was appointed regimental commander on March 26, 1885. From September 19, 1888, he was employed as major general and commander of the 16th Infantry Brigade in Erfurt . Briesen was on 29 July 1890 awarding of the character as a lieutenant general with board for disposition made and received on the occasion of its adoption, the Commander, First Class of the Duke of Saxe-Ernestine House Order .

family

Briesen married Katharina von Wentzel, divorced von Oertzen (* 1854), in Erfurt on July 22, 1889 . The son Manfred (1890-1909) emerged from the marriage.
