Owen Wijndal (born November 28, 1999 in Zaandam ) is a Dutch football player .

He has played for AZ Alkmaar since his youth and is a young Dutch national player.

Career

Owen Wijndal started playing football at ZVV Zaandijk and switched to the AZ Alkmaar junior academy via HFC Haarlem . During the 2015/16 season he made four appearances in the top Dutch division for B-youths in the B-Youth (U17), but in the same season he made just as many appearances for the A-Youth in the highest Dutch U19- Division. In the following season, Owen Wijndal made regular appearances for the reserve team in the third-highest Dutch league as an A-youth, but also played for the professional team in the Eredivisie for the first time on February 4, 2017 when he lost 4-2 was used in the home game against PSV Eindhoven . The professional team initially moved between the upper third of the table and the upper midfield, before they settled in the upper half of the table and ended the season in fourth place, whereby AZ Alkmaar qualified again for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League .

National team

Owen Wijndal made at least one appearance for the Dutch U15 national team and three games in 2014 for the U16. From 2015 to 2016 Owen Wijndal played twelve games for the Dutch U17 and took part in the 2016 European Championship in Azerbaijan , where he made five appearances. The U17 reached the semi-finals, in which the team lost to Portugal.

After at least one assignment for the U18 national team in the meantime, Owen Wijndal played for the Dutch U19 national team from 2016 to 2018 and played 16 games. From 2018 to 2019 he played six times for the U20s and played for the Dutch U21s for the first time on May 31, 2019 in a 5-1 win in the friendly against Mexico in Doetinchem .

On August 19, 2020, Owen Wijndal was first nominated for the Dutch senior team when he was called up to the provisional squad for the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League group matches against Poland and Italy, and he also made it into the final squad.
