Piet Hubertus Velthuizen (born November 3, 1986 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch football goalkeeper .

Club career

Velthuizen played in Quick's youth in 1888 in his hometown of Nijmegen before moving to SBV Vitesse in Arnhem . He signed a professional contract with the Arnhem team for the 2006/07 season . On December 31, 2006, he made his debut in the Eredivisie . The game at Heracles Almelo ended 2-2. Since regular goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar moved to Sparta Rotterdam during the winter break and new signing Vladimir Stojković was not yet eligible to play, Velthuizen initially received the trust of coach Aad de Mos , but had to clear the goal after seven games for Stojković, who had been loaned from FC Nantes . For the 2007/08 season de Mos appointed him the goalkeeper. In 66 games this season and the following, he remained clean 18 times. By the end of the 2009/10 season he had 107 Eredivisie appearances for Vitesse.

After the club was taken over by the Georgian investor Merab Schordania , Velthuizen moved to Hércules Alicante for the 2010/11 season . When he was promoted to the first division, he signed a four-year contract. Since July 2011 he has been back in the Netherlands with SBV Vitesse, but could not participate in the first games of the 2011/12 Eredivisie season because Hércules has not yet given him a clearance. The club would only be willing to do this if Velthuizen waived outstanding salary claims.

National team

Velthuizen was part of the squad of the U-21 national team coached by Foppe de Haan in the 2007/08 season . He was used three times in friendly games and in a match in the European Championship qualification (against Macedonia), but ultimately had to give Kenneth Vermeer the regular place in goal. He was also part of the Dutch team at the Olympic Games in Beijing, but had to be satisfied with the role of the substitute. In March 2008 he was invited to the senior national team for the first time ; he sat on the bench at the EM preparatory game against Austria in Vienna after Edwin van der Sar and Maarten Stekelenburg had canceled. On September 5, 2009 he came to his first assignment in Orange . After Stekelenburg was out due to an injury, the regular second goalkeeper Michel Vorm and Velthuizen were each allowed to play one half in the friendly against Japan .
