history

The oldest written mention of the place comes from June 28, 1387 as a Parn . Pahren is one of the oldest places in the Wisentagau and is a Sorbian foundation. In contrast to many other places in the area, Pahren was not Christianized by the Teutonic Knight Order. There was an independent parish until 1918, which was one of the richest in the Russian Oberland. The place itself is referred to in various sources as "the Italy of the reuss.Oberland". The decisive factor for this was the valley location, which allowed the cultivation of u. a. Peaches allowed. There is evidence of a school since 1520, and the place has been Protestant since that time. The church is simple and plain. Under her there is a crypt that is not accessible. The church was built in its current form around 1450. Unfortunately, only the shell of the former manor is preserved in its original state. The left wing was demolished after the Second World War. The building was erected by the Russians in 1802 on the ruins of the Bünausch estate. The Igolsdorf Vorwerk, which is mentioned in various legends of the area, also belonged to Pahren. This is said to have perished in the Thirty Years' War, only the "Black Fountain" in the forest of the same name on the Weida can be visited. The Sorbitzmühle with a three-sided courtyard near Pahren, the remains of which can still be seen in the pre-dam to the Zeulenroda dam , was first mentioned in documents in 1462. In 1947 this water mill was equipped with electrical energy. In 1958, the waterwheel still drove the shotgun. Then the miller joined the LPG. The farm buildings became storerooms. The mill stood orphaned for 12 years and was left to decay. Then combat groups practiced on site. The remains of the ruins were removed because of the construction of the dam. A millstone in Stelzendorf is reminiscent of the Sorb Mill. Here in Pahren, the Röders, the von Machwitz and the v. Bünaus. From the 14th century to 1918, Pahren belonged to the Gera-Schleizer Reußen area (younger line). One of the large Reussian chamber estates was located here (since 1711, approx. 250 ha). In 1919 it became a state property and later formed the basis for the establishment of the LPG. After 1919 the place belonged first to the people's state Reuss and then to the Greiz district of the state of Thuringia. During the time of the GDR the place belonged to the Zeulenroda district . On May 1, 1994 Pahren became a district of Zeulenroda. Today 324 people live in the village. The largest operation is the Pahren Agrar Cooperation , which emerged from the LPG. Also worth mentioning is the "Goldener Löwe" inn, one of the oldest family-owned village inns in the area with a guesthouse and home-style cuisine.

In 2012, the community celebrated the 625th anniversary of the first mention. The fire brigade was 125 years old, the largest club in town, the Pahren Carnival Club was 40 years old.
