history

Later spellings were Lutlitz (1477) and Leuthlitz (1525). Over the centuries, the place was threatened in its existence several times because the village population was decimated by the Thirty Years' War and the plague (1463 and 1566). In 1533 the Reformation reached the place. Until the end of the German Empire in 1918, Leitlitz was part of the Principality of Reuss younger line . Leitlitz was incorporated into Zeulenroda for the first time in 1919, but regained its independence in 1925. During the time of the GDR the place belonged to the Zeulenroda district . On July 14, 1993 Leitlitz was again a district of Zeulenroda. In 2017, 175 people lived in the district.
