Parliamentary election in Namibia 1989
The parliamentary elections in Namibia in 1989 were held between November 7th and 11th, 1989. A total of 701,483 eligible voters had ten parties to choose from. A total of 71 seats were awarded in the National Assembly of Namibia .
prehistory
The prerequisite for the first free elections in Namibia was an agreement between Angola , Cuba and South Africa , in which South Africa guaranteed Namibia independence and in return Cuba would withdraw its troops from Angola.
Within the framework of UN Resolution 435 of the UN Security Council were in 1989 conducted the elections before the independence of Namibia. The elected parliament served as the constituent assembly until March 20, 1990 .
