The Lunghin pass at 2644 m above sea level. M. is a mountain pass in the Swiss canton of Graubünden and, as the intersection of three continental watersheds, has a special geographical significance. Various hiking routes lead over it. Lunghin is said to go back to the Italian family name Longhini .
Main European watershed point
The Lunghin Pass is the most important watershed point of mainland Europe (outside of Russia), as the watersheds between the three largest seas that surround Europe meet here ( European main watershed ). The water flows through the following bodies of water:
|
While most of the watershed points are on mountain peaks, from which three ridges or ridges start, the geographical situation is different here: At the pass, from the ridge between Piz Grevasalvas and Piz Lunghin / Piz dal Sasc, a ridge branches off to the west over the Motta da Sett (2637 m ) to the Septimerpass, which separates the areas of Julia and Maira.
Location and surroundings
The pass is located in the Albula Alps , northwest below Piz Lunghin , connects the Upper Engadine with the Septimerpass and separates Piz Lunghin from Piz Grevasalvas . The municipal boundary between Bregaglia and Surses is on the pass . To the northeast below the pass is the Lägh dal Lunghin (Lunghinsee), which with its tributaries is considered the source of the Inn (here called En ).
Accesses
The Lunghin Pass is often used when crossing from Maloja to Bivio or when crossing the Avers over the Forcellina into the Upper Engadine . Parts of the route lead along the Senda Segantini thematic hiking trail , which connects the late focal points of the work of the painter Giovanni Segantini .
