Paul Adolph (politician)

Dr. jur. Johann Paul Walther Adolph (born February 29, 1840 in Thorn ; † August 10, 1914 in Hildesheim ) was a German lawyer , politician, Lord Mayor of Frankfurt an der Oder and a member of the Prussian mansion .

Life

Adolph was born in 1840 as the son of a businessman and, after attending grammar school in Thorn, studied camera science and law at the universities in Leipzig , Bern and Berlin . In 1860 he became a member of the Wartburg Leipzig fraternity and in 1862 a member of the Leipzig fraternity Germania . After completing his studies, he entered the civil service in 1862 and was promoted to Dr. iur. doctorate and first worked at the district court in Thorn, then as a district judge in Gollub . From 1869 he was a salaried city council in Frankfurt an der Oder, where he in 1876 to the Second Mayor and from 1895 to the mayor rose. Some of the projects he had planned in advance, such as the Oder Bridge (inauguration in 1895), the establishment of the building trade school (inauguration in 1899, today Otto-Brenner-Gymnasium) and, above all, the construction of the power plant and the introduction of the tram (1896), the hospital (inauguration 1901, today “town hall” of the city administration) and the new building of the Imperial Post Office (opening: 1902) came to an end.

In 1902 he became a secret councilor . From 1895 to 1903 he was a member of the Prussian manor house. After his retirement in 1903, he became an honorary citizen of the city of Frankfurt an der Oder. From 1908 until his death he lived in Hildesheim.
