Petr Šachl (born December 2, 1977 in Jindřichův Hradec , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who was active in the North American minor leagues and various European leagues.
Career
Petr Šachl began his career as a hockey player at HC České Budějovice , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Czech extra league in the playoffs of the 1995/96 season . In his first two professional missions, he remained pointless and received two penalty minutes. Then he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the fifth round as a total of 128th player by the New York Islanders , for which he never played. Instead, he ran in the 1996/97 season for the Tri-City Americans in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . For this he scored 37 scorer points in 63 games, including 13 goals. However, the season itself ended again at HC České Budějovice in the extra league. In the following two years, the winger was unable to assert himself permanently in the Czech Republic and only played 24 games.
During the 1999/2000 season , Šachl played for the Fort Wayne Komets in the United Hockey League and scored 65 scorer points for his new team in a total of 65 games, including 34 goals. Furthermore, he came in the same season to three missions for their league rivals Asheville Smoke and one for the Tacoma Sabercats in the West Coast Hockey League . From 2000 to 2002, the Czech was on the ice for the Milwaukee Admirals - initially in the International Hockey League and, after this was disbanded after the 2000/01 season , in the American Hockey League . In both seasons he was one of the players with the greatest number of points in the Admirals.
In the summer of 2002 Šachl returned to Europe and signed a contract with Ässät Pori in the Finnish SM-liiga . In his first year in the top Finnish league, however, he only came to nine missions, each of which gave him three goals and three assists. In the following two seasons he ran for Ässäts league rivals SaiPa Lappeenranta , where he had a regular place and for which he scored 64 points in 98 games, including 27 goals. However , he ended the 2004/05 season at Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien . In the Kvalserien he achieved relegation with Brynäs. He then moved to Bílí Tygři Liberec in the Czech extra league. He played for the northern Czechs for a total of four years and was able to assert himself in his home country on the second attempt.
The former Czech national player spent the 2009/10 season at the Slovak top club HC Košice , with whom he immediately won the national championship . He contributed to this success with nine goals and twelve assists in a total of 44 games. As a loan player, he also played four games for KLH Vajgar Jindřichův Hradec from his hometown. For this he contributed two goals and four assists in his short guest appearance in the 2nd division , the third Czech division. For the 2010/11 season he received a contract with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana from Slovenia. With the capital club he failed in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in the first playoff round with 1: 4 wins at EC Red Bull Salzburg . He himself was the second best scorer of his team in the main round with 53 points in 53 games. In mid-October 2012 he moved to Italy, where he signed with SG Pontebba from the A1 series .
In 2013 he returned to his home club in Budweis , which was now playing in the second division. In 2014 he ended his professional career and played one more season at amateur level for HC Slavoj Zirovnice.
International
For the Czech Republic , Šachl took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2004 and 2006 . He played six international matches, in which he remained free of points and punishment.
